Information We Collect
We collect information necessary to process your traveler declaration and facilitate your entry into, departure from, or transit through American Samoa. This includes:
Passport Details
- Full name (exactly as shown on passport)
- Date of birth
- Nationality/citizenship
- Passport number
- Certificate of Identity (CI) information, if applicable
- Gender
- Marital status
- Level of education
- Job/occupation
Contact Details in American Samoa
- Where you will be staying (village, hotel, private residence, etc.)
- Local phone number or other reachable contact method

Immigration Screening Questions
- Whether you have ever been refused entry to American Samoa or any other country
- Whether you have ever been deported from American Samoa or any other country
- Whether you have a communicable or contagious disease
- Whether you have ever received a court penalty of 12 months imprisonment or longer
Customs Declaration Information (Treasury-Customs Division)
- Number of family members travelling with you
- Whether you packed your own bags
- Prohibited or restricted goods (illicit drugs, explosives, weapons, firearms, ammunition, copyright/trademark infringing materials)
- Tobacco products over personal allowance (more than 200 cigarettes, 100 cigars, or 2 kg tobacco products per adult 21 years and over)
- Alcoholic beverages over personal allowance (more than 1 liter per adult 21 years and over)
- Goods/samples for business, commercial, or trade use, or goods carried on behalf of another person
- Goods obtained overseas or purchased duty-free with combined total of US$500 or more (including gifts, but not for business/commercial/trade purposes)
- Currency or monetary instruments over US$10,000 or foreign equivalent
Agriculture/Quarantine Declaration Information
- Food of any kind
- Animals or animal products (meat, fresh/frozen/dried/smoked/cooked, sausages, jerky, cured meats, packaged foods containing meat)
- Plants or plant products (fresh fruit/vegetables, rooted plants, cuttings, algae, seaweed, soil, sand, growing media, compost, cut flowers, foliage, seeds, bulbs)
- Other risk items (camping/sports gear, equipment/medication used with animals, soils, water, fishing equipment)
- Biological specimens (vaccines, cultures, blood, live/dried/preserved insects, fungi, laboratory equipment)
- Clothing, shoes, hiking/camping gear exposed to farms, animals, soil, or similar environments
Departure Survey Information (Optional)
- Duration of stay and spending amount
- Islands visited during your stay
- Purpose of visit and main attractions
- Feedback for improving tourism services
How We Use Your Information
Your information is used for the following purposes:
- Immigration Processing: To verify your identity and eligibility to enter, depart, or transit through American Samoa
- Customs Enforcement: To ensure compliance with Treasury-Customs Division regulations regarding restricted goods, duty-free allowances, and currency declarations
- Agriculture/Biosecurity: To protect American Samoa's environment, agriculture, and public health through the Department of Agriculture - Quarantine Division
- Public Health: To monitor and protect public health, especially regarding communicable or contagious diseases
- Border Security: To maintain border security and process travelers efficiently
- Statistical Analysis: To compile anonymized statistics on tourism and travel patterns for government planning
- Communication: To send you your e-Declaration confirmation and any necessary travel updates, or to contact you for Immigration follow-up, customs, or agriculture/biosecurity matters

- American Samoa Government Agencies: Immigration, Treasury-Customs Division, Department of Agriculture - Quarantine Division, Department of Health, and other relevant agencies as required for processing your declaration

Your traveler declaration data is retained in accordance with American Samoa Government records retention policies and applicable U.S. federal requirements. Generally, traveler declarations are retained for a minimum of five (5) years from the date of travel. Statistical and anonymized data may be retained indefinitely for research and planning purposes.
